The whole industrial chain of the 10,000-ton green hydrogen refining project is connected
For the first time in my country, the entire industrial chain of the 10,000-ton green hydrogen refining
project has been connected. The hydrogen production scale of this project reaches 20,000 tons per year,
which is my country's first 10,000-ton photovoltaic green hydrogen demonstration project.
On June 30, Sinopec announced that the Xinjiang Kuqa Green Hydrogen Demonstration Project successfully
produced hydrogen, and the hydrogen produced was transported to Sinopec Tahe Refining and Chemical through
pipelines to replace the existing natural gas fossil energy for hydrogen production. So far, the project has
successfully achieved the integration of the whole process from green hydrogen production to utilization,
which also marks the first time that my country has achieved the integration of the entire industrial chain
of a 10,000-ton green hydrogen refining project. The hydrogen production scale of this project reaches
20,000 tons per year. It is my country's first 10,000-ton-level photovoltaic green hydrogen demonstration
project, providing a replicable and scalable demonstration case for the development of domestic photovoltaic
power generation green hydrogen industry.
The Xinjiang Kuqa Green Hydrogen Demonstration Project is implemented by Sinopec Xinxing Company, which
utilizes the abundant solar energy resources in Xinjiang to generate electricity and directly produce green
hydrogen. Engineering and supporting auxiliary production facilities, electrolyzed water hydrogen production
capacity of 20,000 tons per year, hydrogen storage capacity of 210,000 standard cubic meters, and hydrogen
transmission capacity of 28,000 standard cubic meters per hour. Sinopec Guangzhou (Luoyang) Engineering
Company, Sinopec Fifth Construction Company, Zhongyuan Construction Engineering Company and other units
participated in the construction.
Green hydrogen is directly produced by generating electricity from renewable energy such as solar energy and
wind energy, and basically does not produce greenhouse gases during the production process. The refining and
chemical industry will be one of the main application scenarios for green hydrogen to reduce carbon in the
industrial sector. The green hydrogen produced by this project is supplied to Sinopec Tahe Refining and
Chemical Company nearby, completely replacing the existing natural gas fossil fuel hydrogen production,
reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 485,000 tons per year, creating a new development path for green
hydrogen refining and chemical industry, and paving the way for the industrialization of green hydrogen in
my country The demonstration provided by the application has a significant demonstration effect on the
large-scale utilization of green hydrogen by refining and chemical enterprises to reduce carbon emissions,
and promotes the transformation and upgrading of my country's energy industry.
As my country's first typical demonstration project that runs through the whole process of green hydrogen
production and utilization, including photovoltaic power generation, green power transmission, green power
hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, hydrogen transportation, and green hydrogen refining, the project
construction is faced with new technological challenges, Difficulties such as large scale and no mature
engineering cases to learn from. Through joint research and other forms, Sinopec has made a breakthrough in
solving the problem of flexible hydrogen production under the new energy fluctuating power scenario and
continuous and stable supply to downstream refining and chemical enterprises. Among them, in the face of the
technical difficulties of hydrogen production from renewable fluctuating power sources, Sinopec has
independently developed green power hydrogen production configuration optimization software to match the
synchronous response of electronic control equipment and hydrogen production equipment, greatly improving
the adaptability to fluctuations. The project has successively completed innovative achievements such as
10,000-ton-level electrolytic water hydrogen production technology and engineering complete set technology,
green hydrogen storage and transportation technology, thyristor rectification technology, and intelligent
control system research and development, all of which have realized industrial applications. The project has
applied for patents and proprietary More than 10 technical items.
It is reported that the photovoltaic modules, electrolyzers, hydrogen storage tanks, hydrogen pipelines and
other major equipment and core materials used in the project have all been localized, effectively promoting
the development of my country's hydrogen energy equipment and hydrogen energy industry chain. Taking
electrolyzers as an example, before the start of the project, the domestic cumulative demand for 1000Nm³/h
electrolyzers was less than 30 units, while the Kuqa Green Hydrogen Demonstration Project alone required 52
units, which effectively promoted the scale of the domestic electrolyzer industry Production. According to
comprehensive market research data, the current domestic production capacity of 1000Nm³/h electrolyzers is
close to 3GW, and the green hydrogen market demand in the first five months of this year exceeded 650MW,
which is close to the total domestic hydrogen energy market demand in 2022.
